At least 19 people died and over 90 were injured in Punjab province, Pakistan, on Saturday (May 24) due to heavy storms and rain. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and emergency service 1122 confirmed the information.
Casualties and Injuries
According to PDMA and 1122, people died when walls and roofs collapsed and trees fell due to the storm. Deaths occurred in several areas: 3 in Lahore, 3 in Jhelum, 2 in Sialkot, 2 in Muzaffargarh, 1 each in Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, Attock, Multan, Rajanpur, Hafizabad, Mianwali, Jhang, and Layyah.
Infrastructure Damage
Many old and weak buildings collapsed during the storm. In Lahore, trees were uprooted and solar panels were damaged. Reports also mentioned that solar panels and billboards fell in various places.
Administrative Response
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz ordered all government and rescue teams to stay on high alert. She also directed officials to take emergency actions in low-lying areas affected by rain and floods.
Weather Alert
Before the storm, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) issued a weather alert. It warned that in the next 12 to 36 hours, parts of Punjab, Islamabad, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa could face scattered rain, thunderstorms, dust storms, and strong winds.

PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia said that local commissioners and rescue units were instructed to remain alert after the storm and rainfall reports from different areas.
